The Gundam Deathscythe was designed and constructed by the Professor G at a secret facility somewhere in the L2 Colony Cluster. One of the many who worked on the Gundam was Duo Maxwell, an orphan boy who would later go on to pilot the suit. Once Duo heard about the details of Operation Meteor, however, he became determined to destroy the suit. He was foiled in his attempts by Professor G, who refused to let him destroy such a “work of art.” Instead, the professor let him ‘steal’ the suit and leave for Earth. Duo would use the Deathscythe to destroy only OZ and United Earth Sphere Alliance facilities.
Professor G
Not long after the Gundam pilots returned to space, Duo and his Deathscythe battled several OZ-12SMS Taurus Mobile Dolls. With Duo underestimating the combat capability of the Mobile Dolls, and the Deathscythe being unsuitable for space combat as it was designed for ground warfare, he and his Gundam were no match for the enemy forces and were both captured. OZ then used the damaged Deathscythe as a target in a training mission, where Trowa Barton (who was disguising as an OZ mobile suit pilot) destroyed the Gundam with very little hesitation using a beam cannon. The wrecked Deathscythe was later rebuilt and upgraded by the five Gundam scientists into the XXXG-01D2 Gundam Deathscythe Hell.
Piloted by Duo Maxwell
Duo Maxwell is a character introduced in the TV anime Mobile Suit Gundam Wing.
Duo Maxwell is the pilot of XXXG-01D Gundam Deathscythe. He wears his hair in a thigh-length braid and his signature outfit is a pair of dark, flared jodhpurs and a cassock-style shirt with a white turtleneck shirt underneath. In the Endless Waltz movie, Duo wears what seems to be a red-zippered turtleneck underneath a leather motorcycle jacket with the sleeves rolled up. He is an expert salvager and a member of The Sweeper Group, a group of salvagers and tinkerers.
