YMS-15 Gyan
YMS-15 Gyan

As the One Year War was coming to an end, the Principality of Zeon stepped up development of a new generation of high performance mobile suits in a last ditch act of desperation. Zeonic Company began development of its powerful MS-14 Gelgoog line, and in response, Zimmad Company designed its own next generation mobile suit. Codenamed the YMS-15 Gyan, Zimmad’s latest entry was intended to complement its already well-performing MS-09R Rick Dom space combat suits. The Gyan’s development was supervised by Zeon’s M’Quve, and he took one of the three YMS-15 prototypes built as his personal mobile suit. However, the Gyan only saw combat once at Side 5’s Texas Colony, as M’Quve used his unit in a one-on-one fight against the Earth Federation Forces’ powerful RX-78-2 Gundam – and lost. With Rick Doms to provide the heavy long-range firepower, the Gyan was built with close combat in mind. Its primary weapon was a powerful beam sword, backed up by a large shield containing 56 individual missile launchers and carrying various bombs and space mines. Despite its high performance as a close combat unit, the Zeon military favored the more well-rounded Gelgoog – particularly since the Gelgoog incorporated the long-range firepower the Gyan lacked – and the Gyan project was dropped. Years later, the Gyan and its knight aesthetic inspired Neo Zeon’s AMX-104 R-Jarja from the First Neo Zeon War in UC 0088.

Armaments

Beam Saber

Though the Principality military lagged behind the Federation in terms of beam weapon development, it developed numerous excellent beam weapons late in the war. The Gyan’s beam saber had higher output than the standard Federation beam saber, and was specialized for piercing attacks rather than slashing.

Missile Shield

The Gyan is equipped with a large circular shield that not only defend it from beam weapons, but also has offensive capabilities in the form of needle missiles and hide bombs stored within. However, the storing of weapons does lower the shield’s defensive capabilities, making it weaker than other standard mobile suit-use shields.

Needle Missile

A type of micro missile stored in the outer rims of the missile shield, which held a total of 60. They were effective for distraction and intimidation, and could disable an enemy mobile suit with direct hits to the joints.

Hide Bomb

A type of floating mine stored in the middle of the missile shield, which held a total of 25.
